New Site for Clinic

One of our first projects was to move the clinic from the girls dorm to up by where Mama Arlene sleeps. Arlene found it too difficult to have to travel all the way down for all the little things the kids may need. The new clinic building was an apartment and now is a three room clinic. One room (in picture) is the main examination room. This is where one girl this morning received asthma treatments. She suffers terribly but the local doctors will not help her because they don't think she needs it. Her breathing was so heavy and congested. If she has a full blown attack they rush her to the hospital..otherwise Mama treats her with donated breathing inhalers. The other main room is a bed where sick children can rest. Both rooms are connected by a back hallway room (that I am standing in). The metal cabinet can be kept locked with various supplies. It is amazing how much stuff has been donated (everything from anti-biotics to band aides). With forty kids there are always boo boo's to attend to. The medical field in Rwanda is kind of hit or miss. Depending upon if you can find a good doctor you will either be treated completely wrong because they want to make a profit and so they diagnose you and sell you prescription drugs that you don't need or they just plain miss the correct diagnosis. Arlene hopes to get medical professionals to come and volunteer their time in helping the children in their health needs.
